The Glow-worm Energy Regular 18kW Gas Boiler is an efficient boiler that can be wall-mounted and is small enough to be housed inside a kitchen cabinet or cupboard.
It is ErP A-rated for heating and hot water, which means it has a low energy consumption to help cut the cost of your energy bills.
With this being a regular boiler (conventional/heat only) boiler, you need to factor in that it also requires a hot water cylinder and a cold water storage tank.
How does a regular boiler work?
A regular boiler, also referred to as heat only or conventional boiler, requires the use of a hot water cylinder and cold water storage tank – usually installed in the loft.
The cold water from the tank gets heated up by the heat exchanger in the boiler and is transferred to the hot water cylinder, where it stays warm for several hours. When you turn on a hot tap, the water from the cylinder is used to provide hot water, or directed to your radiators when you turn need central heating.

What is the difference between a regular boiler and system boiler?
It is easy to confuse regular and system boilers as they both require the use of a hot water cylinder to store hot water for central heating and domestic hot water. Where they differ, however, is in the fact that a regular boiler runs off water provided by a cold water storage tank and a system boiler is connected to the mains water supply.
How long will it take to install?
If you are replacing a regular boiler then it makes a huge amount of sense to install a new regular boiler as you will already have the hot water cylinder and cold water storage tank set up. The installation time and cost will be low as no additional fittings or pipework need to be put in place. Typically, it will take an engineer 4-6 hours to install.
If you have no heating system in your home or you are replacing your old combi with one of our best combi boilers, then there will be much more work involved. A cold water storage tank will need to be installed, usually in the loft, as well as the hot water cylinder. Pipework will also need to be fitted to connect the two tanks to the boiler.
Is it suitable for my home?
If you already have a regular boiler, then you will already have a hot water cylinder and cold water storage tank installed. If not, you need to work out if you have sufficient space to house them. The cold tank will usually be fitted in the loft, so you need to make sure you have room and that the loft is properly boarded out.
One of the major benefits in choosing a regular boiler over a combi is that some combi boilers are unable to cope with high demands for hot water e.g. running another tap when someone is having a shower. With a regular boiler the hot water is already stored in the hot water cylinder. It can be delivered throughout the house to wherever the demand is until the cylinder needs refilling.
If you have a property that has a lot of demand for hot water and you have the space for the cylinder and tank, a regular boiler is a very good choice.
