Do I need boiler cover?

If you like peace of mind all year round and don't want to worry about paying a lump sum for your boiler service every year then it is for you. One of the best reasons to get boiler cover is for the free service. Not only do you get your boiler serviced every year without fail, you also don't have to remember, we will do it for you!

If you are a tenant, your landlord should provide boiler cover if you rent. However, you might be able to get your own policy if your landlord allows it.

Boiler cover should be in place as soon as possible. Many providers have waiting periods that make it difficult to claim at the beginning of the policy. This is done to discourage people not taking out boiler cover during an emergency. We recommend that you get coverage as soon as possible unless you are willing to be without heat or hot water for a while.

What is boiler cover best for?

If you own a home emergency cover, then although your boiler may be protected by the manufacturer's warranty, the pipework and the rest of your central heating system aren't.

You do not require boiler and central heating cover if you rent your house as this is up to your landlord to take out the landlord boiler cover. You should talk to your landlord about the terms of their landlord boiler coverage policy before you move in in case it is necessary.

What are the different types of cover?

Two types of coverage are available: boiler breakdown cover or full central heating cover. Boiler coverage, as you would expect, covers the boiler and its controls. Central heating breakdown cover protects all that is connected to the boiler, including radiators, plumbing, and other equipment. There are many deals that include either one or both of these types of coverage. Compare to compare the best deals and choose the best cover for you.

What types of boilers are included?

Most boilers can be covered, including oil-powered, gas, combi and condensing boilers. You should check with us or the provider before you sign up for a policy if you are unsure whether we can offer insurance on your boiler or central heating. This is especially true if your boiler is older than a few decades but usually we can be sure that we can include most gas boilers.

Are old boilers covered?

It can be difficult to get cover for older boilers or heating systems and if you are worried just give us a quick call so we can ensure that we can help. This is due to the fact that they may not meet certain requirements, such as emission and energy efficiency standards and general performance standards. Although the premiums for older boilers may be higher than others, you might not be able to get any cheap boiler insurance or cover from some providers but at Boiler Central we aim to offer the same plans to everyone especially when it comes to central heating insurance.

Does boiler cover include parts?

Should your boiler require any parts to be replaced, these will all be covered within your cover and when you get it serviced up to the specified amount in the terms and conditions. Anything that is considered part of the boiler is included in your cover, so new replacements for these parts shouldn't be a problem, and you'll have your boiler up to scratch in no time.

Does boiler cover include the flue?

Flues are part of the boiler, so they are included in the cover when you get your boiler serviced. If there are any issues with your flue, you will be able to get it replaced with a new working one, with this being included in your boiler cover, so there are no extra charges to worry about.

Does cover include the central heating pump?

A central heating pump is an external part of the boiler and is considered a part of the boiler, meaning that it is included in the cover provided. This is the case for any other components that are part of the boiler, so they can be replaced if yours is broken or damaged.

Does central heating cover include radiators?

Radiators aren't considered part of the boiler, so are not included in the basic boiler cover servicing. However, with different plans, you can get central heating cover which would include the servicing of your radiators. Obviously, with there being more things to check on, the service will take longer but will make sure that everything included in the plan is working fine or will be replaced/repaired if necessary.

What is included in an annual boiler service?

An engineer will be sent out to service your boiler, meaning he will check to see that everything is running as it should. If there is something wrong with your boiler, this will come under your cover, meaning no additional costs that you have to pay.

However, there are different plans that we offer, which can include more than just your boiler cover. Should you one of the other options, your plan can also include your central heating system, boiler replacement, electrics, and your gas supply line.

Is it worth getting an annual boiler service?

It is definitely worth paying the a cost of a boiler service as it can help you resolve a number of issues, whilst also saving you money in the long run. Most manufacturers also stipulate in their terms and conditions that you must get your boiler serviced every year by a Gas Safe registered heating engineer to stop the boiler warranty from becoming invalid. The best thing about paying for a boiler service plan is that it can pick up any issues prior to them happening, or delay them for as long as possible whilst maintaining energy efficiency to help to keep your gas bills down. Boiler cover includes a free service and if a part of your boiler was broken, rather than paying excessive amounts to replace these parts, you'll pay a fixed amount each month that includes all parts of your boiler.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

Boilers should get annual service to make sure that they are running as they should and don't have any damaged components as well as keep the boiler warranty valid. Most manufacturers' terms and conditions include part of the By doing this, you will avoid a large number of issues your boiler can experience over time. Annual boiler service will help make sure you have access to hot water whenever you want it and help everything run smoothly whilst saving you money on your energy bills, especially with the rise in gas prices.

How long does a boiler service take?

Most boiler services can take up to an hour to fully complete, however, this can change depending on the type of boiler you have and how old it is. The engineer will have to check a few different parts of your boiler and produce a report so this is why 60 minutes is the usual time frame.

An hour is a usual time taken for service with a gas boiler, but this can change if you have a different kind of boiler. With combi boilers, most of the main parts are included within the boiler, so the engineer will usually take less time to service it. An oil boiler, however, not only has the boiler to check, but also the oil tank to make sure it is functional and not damaged. This will usually cause the engineer to take a bit more time than with other boilers, so it could take around 1 to 2 hours in total.

How long does it take to get a call back?

Although insurance companies don't usually provide this information, many offer emergency callouts in certain circumstances. These include if your health is at risk or if your building becomes uninhabitable. Although most emergency callouts reach you within 24 hour, this can vary between providers.

What if my boiler breaks?

If your boiler is in an unfeasible state, your provider might refuse to cover you. In this instance, you will need to purchase a new boiler, and then apply to be covered.

How soon can I make a claim?

Many boiler cover or insurance providers offer a no-claims period varying from 14 days to 6 months. This is to stop people from taking out the boiler cover after the boiler has broken down. It can vary from one provider to another, but it could be anywhere between a few days and a whole month. At Boiler Central you can't make a claim within the first 14 days of taking out your cover.

What happens if I change my energy supplier?

You don't need to worry about boiler cover if you switch energy suppliers. They are both independent. This may not apply if your energy supplier has boiler cover. You should check with them to confirm.

What about moving house?

If you decide to move house, then ensure that you let us know and we can make the necessary arrangements to ensure that you can continue your boiler cover at a different property.

Is boiler and central heating cover included with home insurance?

Many people seem to think that they can claim on their home insurance whenever their boiler is damaged or has a breakdown. However, this isn't the case which is why boiler cover is such a useful thing to have. Any repairs or replacements for your boiler will come under boiler cover rather than home insurance, so it is important to make sure that you have cover so that you can save yourself money and not worry about any excessive, additional costs that you might have to pay if your boiler does breakdown.
